Take your Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & 2 Home Today!
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Back when I was kid, Ghostbusters was one of the most popular films around and 22 years later it’s a hit once again thanks to a reboot that has Slimer and co. front and center. The 2016 version of this sci-fi film features an all-girl cast, but otherwise, it has the same tricks, jokes, and ghosts that made the original such a success.
It’s also spawned tons of toys and merchandise, including some updated Lego sets. The LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & 2 75828 Building Kit gives kids a new spin on the original toy and is a great gift for those young and old. We’ll show you just what makes this set so special, as well as give you a rundown on the movie and other Lego sets, which work with the newest one.
Ghosbusters 2016: Who You Gonna Call?
If you’re thinking about getting your kids (or yourself) the newest Lego Ghostbusters set, it’s good to know a little about the new movie it’s based off of. First and foremost, there is plenty of green slime, especially for poor ghostbuster Erin (Kristen Wiig). Erin may not be too happy about it, but kids everywhere will love it.
Adults will love it too, because there are tons of references to the original, including that famous “Who you gonna call?” line. They’ll also appreciate the all-star cast, which in addition to Kristen Wiig includes Melissa McCarthy (Abby), Leslie Jones (Patty), Kate McKinnon (Jillian), and Chris Hemsworth as the ladies’ assistant, Kevin (your welcome ladies!)
The movie is packed with cool gadgets and cars, along with lots of action as the 4 women form their own ghost-busting business and race around the city trying to get rid of these mischievous ghosts.
The Lego Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & 2 (75828)
The Lego Ghostbusters set will transport kids right into the heart of the movie thanks to its fine attention to detail and working parts. Featuring all five main characters, weapons and the iconic Ecto 1 vehicle and Ecto 2 motorbike (plus a Mayhem character to battle), it provides hours of play for kids and fans. Among this sets key features are:
• Working, movable parts for life-like play: the Ecto 1 has a removable roof, opening front doors, 4 seats for our gal heroes and a storage compartment that opens so kids can actually reenact scenes (or make up their own).
This means they can place all the characters inside, load up the weapons, then race around the carpet or yard looking for ghosts.
The Ecto 2 also has rear storage, as well as a cool Ecto 2 license plate. The storage box is lots of fun, letting kids store ghosts or tools in it (or anything else they find), as they roam and explore.
• Interactive Lego set that encourages creativity: this set has over 600 pieces, so kids will spend hours putting the Ecto 1 & 2 together. This helps them build dexterity and encourages imagination, as they can use the pieces to make their own vehicles as well.
• Comes with all the right accessories: this set not only comes with the vehicles, but the five main players and these really cool weapons: 4 proton packs, an ion shield gun and a proton sidearm. This is great for kids because everything is included for them to pretend their fighting those slimy ghosts.
It’s great for parents too, because they don’t have to spend extra money to get all the pieces.
• Realistic details: featuring the classic Ghostbusters logo, and characters that truly look like the ones on the big screen, kids and collectors alike will love their realistic appearance.
• Perfect size: the Ecto 1 is over 4” high and 8” long, making it easy for kids big and small to hold and manipulate. The ghostbusters and Kevin are also average size, making them easy to hold and put weapons in their hands.
Around $50, you really get your money’s worth thanks to all the pieces and characters included.
The Ghostbusters Lego Family
This is the third Ghosbusters Lego set ever made, and all three sets can be used together, expanding play time. There are also additional characters, from the new and old movies that can be bought separately, so kids can create their own Ghostbusters universe.
For collectors, it is really cool to display these Lego sets, which feature the key characters and vehicles from both movies.
For kids, it gives them endless possibilities in terms of what the can build and lets them also include their friends in play time.
Here is a rundown of the other 2 sets:
The first set was the Lego Ghostbusters Ecto 1 (21108). It is the same size as the current set and features the Ecto 1 car from the 1984 original movie.
It also has the 4 main characters: Peter (played by Bill Murray), Ray (Dan Akroyd), Egon (Harold Ramis) and Winston (Ernie Hudson).
As with the new Ecto 1, this one also has the iconic logo, removable roof and seats. There are also proton packs and “paranormal detection equipment” on top of the car.
However, there are only 3 seats, no rear storage and the doors don’t open. But these are minor inconveniences, especially when the set is reasonably priced at just under $50.
The second set is the Lego Ghostbusters Firehouse (75827). With over 4,000 pieces this set measures over 14” when fully built and is a detailed replica from the firehouse in the original movie.
Building the firehouse alone will take up a lot of your kids time, but that is just a small fraction of the entertainment this set provides. Once built, the building walls open, revealing three floors in the firehouse. so kids can play out countless scenarios.
There are nine characters included, among them Library Ghost and Zombie Driver, as well as all the main cast. In addition, there are tons of extra pieces, like fire alarm bells, fire extinguisher, computer, phone, toaster with slime, fridge with frozen pizza, camera, magnifying piece and lots more.
It’s a bit pricey, but it is a toy that is built to last and a piece of movie history.
As you can see the new Lego Ghostbusters Ecto 1 & 2 set is a great toy for kids and a must for collectors everywhere. It pays homage to the new movie, and gives kids a cool new Lego toy that will provide them with lots of fun.
The set is an ideal gift, as it sparks creativity and encourages constructive play for kids, and can be displayed and admired for Ghostbuster memorabilia lovers. Best of all, the new set can be used together with the two previous ones, so kids can have a complete Ghostbusters set in their house. So who you gonna call? Amazon- and buy this new set right away!
